Pizzeria Website Design Study

The Woodfire

Terracotta and flour dust textures, rustic and unfussy.

The Woodfire demo website preview

Pizza is a commodity decision made in about eleven seconds. Every pizzeria says wood fired and fresh dough, so those words no longer carry any information and cannot be the reason someone picks one over another.

The oven is the only part of this business that cannot be replicated by the place two streets over. Texture does the work that adjectives were doing badly, so the page is built from surfaces rather than from claims.

Design decisions

  1. 01

The oven is the hero, not the dining room

Dining rooms look the same everywhere. The fire is the proof, and it is put where the stock interior shot usually goes.

  2. 02

The menu is short on purpose and stays short

A twelve item pizza list signals confidence. A forty item list that also does pasta, burgers and nachos signals a kitchen that does nothing especially well.

  3. 03

    Surfaces instead of stock photography

Flour, char, timber. It costs nothing to shoot and it cannot be bought by a competitor from the same stock library.

What is built into it

  • Oven-led hero
  • Short photo menu
  • Texture bands
  • Table booking

The Woodfire is a design study. The business, its address and its reviews are invented so we can show a finished website instead of a flat mockup. Nothing on this page describes a real client of VinaPage.
