Care and hygiene

What we do, and what you do

Half of how long a set lasts is on us and half is on you. Here is both halves, plus exactly how we clean between clients.

Our side

Autoclave, not just sanitiser. Every metal tool is bagged, run through a class B autoclave and opened in front of you. The indicator strip on the bag changes colour, so you can see it.

Files and buffers are single use. They go in the bin at the end of your appointment, every time. It costs us more and it is not negotiable.

Pedicure bowls have disposable liners. New liner per client, and the pipeless jets are flushed with disinfectant between every appointment.

We will say no. If you turn up with an infection, a lifted nail that looks green, or a fungal issue, we will not work over it. We will tell you where to go instead.

Your side

Cuticle oil, twice a day. The single biggest thing. Dry nail plates lift at the edges, oiled ones do not. We sell a pen for $18 and you can buy the same thing anywhere.

Gloves for cleaning and dishes. Hot water and detergent break the seal at the cuticle faster than anything else you do.

Your nails are not tools. Opening cans, scratching labels and picking at the polish are the three things that come up every time a set fails early.

Come back on time. Three to four weeks for BIAB, three for acrylic. Leaving it six weeks means a rebuild, which costs more and takes longer.

Questions we get daily

Does gel ruin your natural nails?

Gel does not. Bad removal does. Soaking off properly takes fifteen minutes and no filing down to the nail bed. If your nails came back thin and bendy from somewhere else, that is what happened.

Can I get my nails done while pregnant?

Yes. Our salon is ventilated and we use low odour products, and plenty of our clients come right through their pregnancy. Tell us if smells are bothering you and we will seat you by the door.

What if I do not like it?

Say so before you leave the chair and we will change it there and then, no charge and no awkwardness. Once you have gone home and slept on it, a colour change is a new appointment.

Do you take walk ins?

Yes, if there is a chair free, and there usually is on a Tuesday or Wednesday morning. Thursday late night and Saturday you should book, ideally a week out.

Can you fix a set from another salon?

Usually. Book a full set and add $20 for removal, and Jas will look at it first. If it is beyond fixing she will say so and only charge you for the removal.
