Site visit to switch on, about five weeks
Most of that is waiting on your retailer, not on us. The part where we are at your house is one day.
- 01 Site visitWeek 1, free
Forty minutes on your roof and in your switchboard
We measure the roof, check pitch and aspect, photograph the switchboard, and run a shading study that models the sun path across a whole year. Bring your last twelve months of bills if you have them.
- 02 Design and quoteWeek 1, free
A roof layout and one fixed number
A panel layout drawn on a photo of your own roof, a year by year production estimate, and a price with the extras itemised. Three working days, emailed, no appointment required to receive it.
- 03 ApprovalsWeeks 2 to 4, 20% deposit
The waiting bit, and it is not us
Distribution company approval takes ten to fifteen working days here. We lodge it the day you sign and chase it weekly. Nothing goes on your roof until it is approved.
- 04 Install dayWeek 5, balance on completion
7:30am to about 4pm, one day
Scaffolding goes up the day before. Power is off for roughly ninety minutes in the afternoon while we tie into the board, and you get told the window that morning so you can plan around it.
- 05 Export meterWeeks 6 to 7, no cost
Until this lands you generate but are not paid
Your retailer swaps the meter, usually inside ten working days. You are still saving from day one on what you use yourself, you just are not being credited for exports yet.
- 06 Twelve month checkA year later, free
We come back and compare it to the estimate
Panels washed, connections torqued, output checked against what we promised. If it is short we find out why. About one in twenty is, usually a tree that has grown.
Questions we get on every site visit
Do panels work on a cloudy Nelson day?
Yes, at roughly a quarter to a third of full output. Cold and bright is the best combination, so a clear July day can out-produce a hazy February one.
Will they keep the power on in a blackout?
Not on their own. Grid tied inverters shut down in an outage to protect line workers. You need a battery with backup mode, wired to a separate essential circuit.
What maintenance do they need?
Almost none. Rain does most of it. We wash them at the twelve month visit, and after that a clean every three or four years is plenty unless you are under pine trees.
Does it add value when we sell?
Agents here say yes, but nobody can give you an honest number. Buy it for the bill and treat any gain at sale as a bonus.
Find out what your roof would actually do
Forty minutes on site, a shading study across a full year, a look at your last twelve bills, and a fixed quote emailed in three days. No charge, and nobody sitting at your kitchen table at 7pm.
