The Welcome Bay backyard, built over two summers

Nadia and Rob called us out to a home with a steep, slipping back bank and nowhere flat for the kids to play. They wanted a lawn, a deck off the kitchen and somewhere to cook, without moving house to afford it.

We built a two-tier schist retaining wall to claw back level ground, laid a new lawn and ran a kwila deck straight off the kitchen doors. An outdoor kitchen under a louvre roof went in the second summer, with native planting to soften the banks. The bank has not moved since, and they cook outside most weekends from Labour Weekend to Easter.
