Herbal water and scalp massage during the Peony ritual
01The hour, in order

How the hour runs.

Every step is done at the basin with your head supported. Nothing is rushed and nothing is upsold along the way.

The basin during the Peony ritual

You stay lying down for the whole hour. The only time you sit up is for the blow dry.

  1. The herbs go in first

Peony root, ginger and lemongrass steeped in hot water. The blend is chosen once your therapist has looked at your scalp.

  2. The water does the work

Warm herbal water is poured slowly through the hair while your head is supported. This is the part people remember.

  3. Then the hands

Thirty minutes of scalp, neck and shoulder pressure work in the traditional Vietnamese sequence.

  4. You leave dry

Treatment mask, rinse and a full blow dry. No wet hair on Mount Eden Road.

02The blend

Three herbs, steeped fresh for you.

The proportions are decided after your therapist has looked at your scalp, not poured from a bottle that was mixed last week.

Peony root
Calms an irritated scalp and settles redness.
Ginger
Warms the skin so the blend moves into the roots.
Lemongrass
Cuts through product buildup and excess oil.

What people say afterwards

“Amazing staff and service. I recommend the Peony Herbal Hair Therapy to anyone carrying tension.”

Tracy Lee HeadGoogle review

The basin is the quietest room in the building.

Seventy five minutes, herbal water, and a proper blow dry before you walk back out onto Mount Eden Road.
